Back To The Drawing Board / De Vuelta A La Mesa De Dibujo

SAN GERALDO WAS at it again. He tried to explain krumkake to his fellow students in Spanish class. Krumkake is the traditional Norwegian waffle cookie that he makes to perfection. "Kake" in Norwegian is "cake." Caga and caca, which sound the same in Spanish mean "shit." Anyway, this time (click here for the first time) San Geraldo closed his notebook without even completing the sketch.

WHAT KRUMKAKE REALLY LOOKS LIKE.
QUÉ KRUMKAKE REALMENTE PARECE.
AND WHILE WE'RE ON THE SUBJECT OF BIG HORNS, HERE I AM IN WYOMING IN 1984.
Y MIENTRAS ESTAMOS EN EL TEMA DE BIG HORNS (CUERNOS GRANDES), AQUÍ ESTOY EN EL ESTADO DE WYOMING EN 1984.

Cannoli! Now I'm craving one. As for the handsome devil, I think I look like a character from Mad Magazine.

  2. They look a bit like what I know as Brandy Snaps, except that Geraldo's are not filled with confectioner's cream ?

Much lighter flavor I think than brandy snaps, but similar looking.

  3. I always wondered why this mysterious word 'kake' regularly featured in gay cartoons and comics of the 70s and 80s - 'Tom of Finland' and more. Your pointing to its meaning in Norwegian has just belatedly made the penny drop. Maybe it meant something along the grounds of 'beefcake'. Sounds plausible enough.

I wonder. Finnish is entirely different. But (I just looked it up) Kakku is cake and Kukko is cock (as in rooster). "Muskelimiesten kuvat" is beefcake! Not so catchy.

Like I said, he didn't even show this sketch to anyone. He's learning. He should take the finished product into class. SO good.

  7. My first thought seeing the thumbnail image was that it was a salt shaker on its side, but krumkake makes much more sense. Jerry showed excellent judgement in closing his notebook on this one!

The real thing is unbelievably light and delicious. And a lot of work to make.

  9. Nature is about the only thing Wyoming has got going for it. Any state that likes Dick Cheney probably doesn't have a high average IQ per person

I hadn't heard of Cheney way back then. If I knew what was coming, I probably wouldn't have been so happy in that picture.

One of Jerry's mother's requirements, a photo at every major sign. I didn't catch the joke of this one until yesterday.

  12. For some reason, the word "el esbozo" just jumped out at me. Now it's in my head and I can't help making up new definitions for it.
